Setting Up Re-Billing on Cybersource

If your group rebills your customers on a regular (or even semi-regular) basis, setting up rebilling on Cybersource can save you time and increase productivity by letting you set up subscriptions according to the billing interval and duration you set.

Here is the way rebilling works:

Step 1 - The user buys a membership via your Magnet website and designates that he or she wants to Auto-Renew by checking the box in the checkout page. Note that this is an option only if you are using Cybersource for your credit card gateway.

Step 2 - Once the transaction is submitted, Cybersource generates a Subscription ID (SI) that is (1) unique to this user, and (2) unique to your account with Cybersource. This Subscription ID is essentially a way for Cybersource to retrieve the user's credit card # the next time he or she is up for renewal.

Step 3 - When the membership term is up, our system will 'hit' Cybersource with an automatic transaction providing the Subscription ID # instead of a credit card #.

What is achieved by this?

1. We don't need the user in order to do this (thus, it's essentially an auto-renewal.)
2. We do not have to store or even transmit the user's credit card #.
3. Finally, the transaction is actually safer than a regular one because even if some super hacker got hold of this Subscription ID, the only place this Subscription ID will work is on your Cybersource account.
