MUUT (Master User Upload Template) Details

More detail about how you upload your pre-existing user data.

Let's look at the MUUT in more detail. It allows you to take your pre-existing user data and bring it with you as you migrate to your new Magnet-based website / management system.

The good thing is that you no longer need to have multiple data sources, in case you had multiple sources. It's also a good opportunity for you to review your data in case you haven't done so recently.

When you first upload this file, you'll see a large excel file that has about 250 columns set up with datafield names at the top. It's a fairly simple file to understand, though, once you open it up.

The first row is the field name. There are 4 colors here. There is the yellow; then aqua/blue; then pink; and finally at the very end, some gray custom colors out at the far right end of the spreadsheet. The initial 10 or so columns -- whose column headings are highlighted in yellow -- are general info fields. The aqua/blue fields after that are for membership information. The fields highlighted in pink after that are for user profile information -- email info, street address info, etc. Finally, the gray columns all the way out to the far right end of the spreadsheet are for custom fields, in case you have data for which we don’t have pre-defined columns.

Going down the spreadsheet now, Rows 2 through 6 are just explanatory information. If there is an X in Row 6 for a given column, it means that you ignore that column -- leave it alone, and we'll take care of it. An asterisk or star in Row 6 for a given column means that that column is optional. This information, by the way, is also included in the MUUT file in the text box that we've included for your easy reference when you're actually doing this work.

In general if you see a particular column where the cell in Row 6 for that column is blank, it means that it’s optional also, but in these cases, we assume this will be self-explanatory. For instance, Column G is "Last Name" and although most records for most clients will have last name information for all users, not all will.

Also, note that for many cells -- such as cell B6 -- there will be additional information there, but you may have to widen that column or double-click within the cell to see the entire note that is written there.

A note of caution: be very, very careful when you're bringing your user data in that you keep the data aligned row by row. If you get your data out of alignment by even one row, you could end up affecting large portions of your data and having, say, the wrong address information associated with the wrong user, and this may be repeated across large numbers of your users.

Finally, some information about custom fields. With regard to user data you want to bring in for which there wouldn't already be datafields predefined in the MUUT, that's not a problem. We have columns for custom datafields at the far right end of the database.

One important note: while there isn't a fee for adding your custom datafields to your user database, if it is necessary for us to modify one or more of the profile pages on which this data might appear, then there can -- and likely will be -- one-time customization fees for us to modify those pages. If/when that time comes, we can estimate those fees for you once we have a clear understanding of what you would like to have done.
