Using Pixlr to resize images

Details on how to use Pixlr.com to edit, crop, and resize images that you intend to use on your website.

This couldn't be easier...

There are three main usages for images on your Magnet site:

1.  In article images...

Resizing your images is necessary for 2 reasons:

  1. If an image is too large, it simply looks bad on the page.
  2. A smaller image means less downloading time.

For article images, we recommend an image that is no wider than 400px.   Of course, this is not written in stone.  But a 400px width will be large enough for the viewer while still allowing text to nicely wrap around it.

2. Image Albums...

These are used to display a series of images (for example, showcasing an event).  For those, we recommend an optimal size of 700x400 pixels.  The size doesn;t have to be exact - but close.

3. Image Faders...

The fader's size is usually 410x205 pixels (unless you have a custom one installed).   This means that before you upload the image to the File Vault, you will nee to crop and resize it to that size.

Here is the best way to do this:

1. Go to http://pixlr.com/express/
2. "Browse" to the file you want to edit (assuming it is on your computer already).
3. Optional: Click on the "Adjustment" button (bottom-left) and play with sizing, cropping, etc...
4. Finally, "Save" the file back to your desktop. (Upper Left).

From that point, you can safely upload it back to the Magnet vault.
